We were hoping for a long list of spicy features to accompany Genii’s cuisine-themed game, but the Spice of Life slot takes a more minimalist approach to mechanics and bonuses. Yes, there are wild symbols, win multipliers, scatter multipliers and free spins to enjoy, but all of these features felt somehow disconnected. They all work individually, without ever finding any creative ways to connect.
On the other hand, we were impressed by the winning values of high-paying symbols. These paid a minimum of 40x and could go all the way up to a staggering 500x. We even managed to land a win of ₹200,000 during the base game, simply by landing four high-paying symbols.
Wild Symbols – Wild symbols in Spice of Life are incredibly basic, carrying no value of their own but still stepping in for any missing pay symbols that could form part of a winning combination. Although they don’t come with any fancy special features, they were still useful, especially whenever they helped complete or enhance a high-paying symbol win.
Scatter Symbols – Spice of Life has two kinds of scatter symbols: free spin scatters that trigger free spins and regular scatters that simply come with a win multiplier. These regular scatter symbols increase your win multiplier depending on the number of symbols you land in one go. Three, four or five give you a 3x, 5x or 7x win multiplier respectively. We managed the lowest 3x multiplier a couple of times but never hit any higher values. On the other hand, landing 3, 4 or 5 free spin scatters awards you with 10, 12 or 18 free spins.
Free Spins – It took us 120 spins to trigger the free spins bonus for the first time, so don’t go expecting to activate these bonus rounds too often. And we were ultimately quite disappointed with the bonus itself. The gameplay during free spins is identical to the base game, with the only difference being that your stake is locked to the setting it had when the bonus was triggered. We hoped for some additional multipliers to push our wins further, but in fact, we never managed to top the base game win.
Spice of Life is creative in its wonderful visuals, but sadly this doesn’t extend to the game’s features. All of the mechanics that have been included are pretty barebones, without much innovation or originality to make them stand out. At least the high-paying symbols, which can pay up to 500x your stake, manage to somehow redeem these lacklustre features.
Unfortunately, with very few engaging special features and a maximum win that has been limited to 5875x, we wouldn’t suggest this game to any experienced players who are looking for a rewarding time at the reels.
Although it includes all of the same features as Spice of Life, TopSpin’s Raja Mantri Chor Sipahi finds many more creative ways to implement them. Yes, the maximum win is reduced at 4,000x your stake and volatility is cranked up to a high setting, but we had a ball checking out all the innovative ways that TopSpin used to represent traditional aspects of the game through wilds, free spins, gamble features and collect features.
On the other hand, iSoftBet adds cascading reels and even more win multipliers to the mix in Aztec Gold Megaways. You get more traditional bonus features like wilds and respins, as well as a high level of volatility but it’s the jackpot prizes that hold the biggest wins. We never managed to trigger them but managed to land a huge win of ₹130,000 through high pay symbols and the slot’s win multiplier.
