Play’n Go has gone for a simplistic version of Blackjack, with multi-hand play being the only real special feature. Other than that, Blackjack-MH treats us to a set of rather basic but intuitive features including double bets and split hand functions. It’s a satisfying list of mechanics, although we would have loved to see a betting history feature included here.
Insurance Bet – If you’re looking to minimise your losses, the insurance bet guarantees a 2:1 payout if the dealer’s hand wins. It’s a simple enough feature which we’ve seen time and time again in all kinds of Blackjack games and Play’n Go’s use of it is as straightforward as you would expect it to be.
Double Down – After the dealer hands over your starting cards, you can hit the Double Down button. This of course doubles the bet you have on a selected hand, and you can use the feature across all three hands in play. Keep in mind that you can only double down after the initial hands are dealt. The game doesn’t let you double down if you ask for additional cards on a specific hand.
Split – If you’re dealt two cards with the same value, you can split them into two separate hands. Of course, the potential for more winnings increases with the more hands you have in play. We never managed to split all three hands during our playthrough but did have a round where four of our five hands beat the dealer.
Multi-Hand Play – The only real special feature in Blackjack-MH is the ability to have up to three hands in play on any given round. Of course, you can simply decide to play with one hand, but more hands increase your chances of beating the dealer. We also enjoyed trying out different strategies on each hand and then comparing and contrasting their progress to see which one worked out best in the long run. This is precisely why we would have loved to have a betting history feature added in. It would have helped us keep track of our progress better, without having to manually do it ourselves.
We have mixed feelings towards Blackjack-MH. On one hand, the game implements its chosen features well, and the game’s interface is very intuitive and easy to navigate. The choice to allow multi-hand play improved our chances of winning significantly, especially when combined with the possibility of splitting all three hands.
But on the other hand, we would have loved to have features like betting history and side bets included here. Sure, we can recommend Blackjack-MH for beginners and even intermediate players, but experienced Blackjack veterans won’t be satisfied with these limitations.
Relax Gaming’s Blackjack goes for a similar stripped-back version of the game. It doesn’t look quite as good as Blackjack-MH, but it also comes with the option to place insurance bets, three multi-hand play, double-down options, and a splitting function. The biggest advantage we found here was the increased maximum win which caps at 6,000x your stake.
Pragmatic Play goes for a different approach with One Blackjack. To begin with, the game is played live and comes with more advanced features like game statistics, and side bets that could win you up to 2,000x your stake. On the downside, you only get one hand to play with, so your odds of success are a bit more limited, despite the game’s 99.28% RTP.
